A wave of national pride will wash over Ottawa this Canada Day as several distinguished Canadians are formally recognized for their contributions to the nation’s cultural fabric.
Among those receiving the country’s highest civilian honour, the Order of Canada, are actor Ryan Reynolds and celebrated musician Heather Rankin. Reynolds, a Vancouver native, has captivated audiences worldwide with his iconic portrayal of Deadpool, becoming a global entertainment icon.
Rankin, hailing from Mabou, Nova Scotia, carries a rich musical legacy. Her six Juno Awards earned with The Rankin Family, coupled with a flourishing solo career, solidify her place as a cornerstone of Canadian musical heritage.
Joining them in this prestigious recognition are Deantha Rae Edmunds, a gifted musician from St. John’s, Newfoundland, and Winnipeg’s respected sportscaster, Scott Oake. The list is completed by Kim Thuy Ly Thanh, a compelling writer from Longueuil, Quebec.
The investiture ceremony will be a central moment of the Canada Day celebrations, unfolding at noon at LeBreton Flats in Ottawa. It promises to be a powerful display of national unity and appreciation.
The Order of Canada isn’t merely an award; it’s a testament to a lifetime of dedication and service, recognizing individuals who have shaped Canada’s identity and enriched the lives of its citizens.
