Just days after the election, reports are surfacing of wealthy New Yorkers already seeking an escape, reminiscent of the mass exodus seen during the height of the pandemic. The desire for a different lifestyle, it seems, is once again driving a significant relocation.
Kourtney Pulitzer, a real estate agent with Sotheby’s International Realty in Palm Beach, documented the immediate impact on TikTok. She described a flood of calls beginning before 8 a.m., with showings scheduled for properties that had previously sat vacant for weeks.
Pulitzer recounted the shift as an almost instantaneous explosion of demand, comparing it to a lightbulb switching on or a firecracker detonating. The political outcome in New York, she stated, is directly fueling a wave of buyers arriving on Florida’s shores.
The trend isn’t limited to anecdotal evidence. Developers in South Florida are reporting substantial increases in sales to New York residents. One Miami-based firm, BH Group, has reportedly closed over $100 million in contracts from New York buyers in recent months – double the volume from the previous year.
Isaac Toledano, CEO of BH Group, believes the election acted as a catalyst, accelerating decisions already under consideration. Concerns about potential tax increases, lifestyle changes, and even crime rates are driving the relocation, according to Toledano.
The influx isn’t universally welcomed. A growing sentiment among some Floridians expresses a desire to keep the state’s current character intact, with messages circulating online urging New Yorkers to remain in their city.
