REPUBLICAN CIVIL WAR ERUPTS: She Just TORCHED Her Party!

A half-century after a stinging rebuke – “Ford to City: Drop Dead” – echoed through New York, a new political battle is brewing over the city’s future. The election of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has ignited a firestorm, prompting some Republicans to consider a drastic measure: cutting off federal funding.

Representative Nicole Malliotakis, the sole Republican voice for New York City in Congress, is pushing back fiercely against a proposal from Representative Buddy Carter. Carter intends to introduce a bill, bluntly named the “MAMDANI Act,” that would immediately halt all federal funds to New York City while Mamdani is in office.

Malliotakis views the proposal as a reckless overreach, a punishment for the entire city based on the choices of its voters. She argues that targeting New York City is not only unfair but strategically unwise, given the city’s significant contribution to the national economy and political fundraising.

The proposed legislation is stark in its simplicity: it would rescind any unused federal funds allocated to New York City and prevent the obligation of any new funds during Mamdani’s tenure. This sweeping measure aims to directly address concerns about the mayor-elect’s progressive policies.

Malliotakis acknowledges the need to challenge policies she disagrees with, but believes a complete funding freeze is excessive. She insists on holding Mamdani accountable for his agenda, but draws the line at jeopardizing essential services and resources for all New Yorkers.

The congresswoman issued a pointed warning to any colleague considering supporting the bill: if they seek financial support from New York City residents, they should reconsider sponsoring legislation that actively harms the city. She believes a clear message must be sent about respecting the city’s contributions.

Representative Carter, however, remains resolute, framing Malliotakis as a vital defender against the spread of socialist policies. He maintains that American taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize an agenda they fundamentally oppose, and the MAMDANI Act is a direct response to that concern.

Despite the strong rhetoric, the bill faces an uphill battle in Congress. The current legislative gridlock and strong Democratic opposition make its passage highly improbable, especially in the wake of a recent government shutdown.

Adding another layer to the unfolding drama, another New York Republican, Representative Michael Lawler, has already introduced legislation focused on Mamdani’s policies. His bill proposes a study into the potential economic impact of government-owned grocery stores, a key promise made during the mayoral campaign.
