SPORT STAR'S EMPIRE CRASHES: Bar Chain COLLAPSES!

A wave of uncertainty has struck the innovative social cricket scene as Sixes, the popular bar chain, has entered administration. The future of the brand, known for its playful take on the sport and lively atmosphere, now hangs in the balance.

Founded by Calum Mackinnon and Andy Waugh, Sixes quickly became a prominent player in the burgeoning “competitive socialising” market, a space also occupied by ventures like Junkyard Golf and Flight Club. The concept offered a unique blend of entertainment, food, and drinks, proving particularly popular for celebrations.

The chain had even attracted investment from high-profile figures, including cricketer Ben Stokes, through the 4Cast Investment Group, alongside fellow players Jofra Archer and Stuart Broad. Their belief in the brand’s potential underscored its initial success and appeal.

Despite boasting several thriving locations, Sixes succumbed to a challenging economic climate marked by reduced consumer spending and intensifying competition. The pressures ultimately led to the decision to seek administration, casting a shadow over its future.

Administrators at FRP are currently engaged in discussions with a number of potential buyers, hoping to secure a rescue deal for the brand. They emphasize the inherent strength of the Sixes concept and the positive customer response to its distinctive venues.

Tony Wright, a partner at FRP, stated that the business possesses “significant potential,” and expressed optimism based on the initial level of interest received from prospective investors. The goal is to find a path forward that benefits all stakeholders.

Currently, bookings at all Sixes locations – Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Fitzrovia, Fulham, Guildford, High Wycombe, London Bridge, Oxford, Romford, Shepherds Bush, Stratford, Sussex, Watford, and Wembley – are expected to be honored as the administration process unfolds. However, the Southampton venue has closed its doors with immediate effect.

The administrators are focused on ensuring continuity for customers, particularly during the crucial Christmas period, and are confident that with the right investment, Sixes can overcome its current difficulties and capitalize on its core strengths. The search for a viable solution continues.
