Drake celebrated his 39th birthday Friday night by cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Toronto rapper was spotted in the stands wearing a Don Bosco Eagles jacket with the late Rob Ford’s name emblazoned on the front and a blinged-out chain that showed off the CN Tower and celebrated the Blue Jays and the Toronto Raptors.
“What up? The biggest Sixer … live from the World Series, on my birthday. I see the whole city came out tonight. Shout out to the Jays,” the Hotline Bling hitmaker said.
When MLB shared the selfie-shot video, the Blue Jays were trailing 2-0, but Drake was unfazed.
“We’re down right now, but we’ve been here before,” he said.
Shortly after it was posted, the Blue Jays tied the game 2-2 on a Daulton Varsho home run with Alejandro Kirk on base.
By the end of the sixth, the Blue Jays were up 11-2 thanks in part to a Grand Slam from Addison Barger and a two-run shot courtesy of Kirk.

But despite the Blue Jays’ turnaround, as soon as he was shown on the giant outfield video board, watchers at home and in the stands took to social media to air their worries that his presence might doom the team.
“THE DRAKE CURSE IS AMONG US,” one die-hard fan wrote on X, with another adding, “The Drake curse is in effect.”
For those unaware, the “Drake Curse” emerged after an unscientific study determined that the teams the Grammy winner supports have a tendency to lose.
In 2019, Maple Leafs fans blamed Justin Bieber and Drake — who were spotted cheering on the team in person throughout the team’s playoff series against the Boston Bruins — following the team’s Game 7 loss, prompting then-Leafs coach Mike Babcock to weigh in on allegations of a curse.
“I’ve heard lots of things since I’ve come here,” Babcock said at the time. “But that’s one of the craziest things. The game is played on the ice by us. There’s no curse whatsoever.”
When Dodgers’ superstar Shohei Ohtani spurned Toronto for Los Angeles in 2023, Drake was held partially responsible by some keyboard warriors when he posted a picture of himself to Instagram wearing the NLCS MVP’s 2023 All-Star jersey.

As soon as Drake shared the photo that seemingly celebrated Ohtani’s signing, Jays fans immediately started to fear that the three-time MVP was headed to the Dodgers.
“Ohtani is now a Dodger — it’s confirmed,” one fan wrote , while another declared , “[This is an] All-time Drake curse moment if [Ohtani to the Jays] doesn’t happen.”
“ I believe the kids these days say this is bad luck so it probably means he isn’t going to Toronto… ” a third person lamented.
Talk of the “Drake Curse” shifted over to Reddit as well, where one MLB watcher dismissed Toronto’s hopes: “If it wasn’t happening before, it is soooo not happening now.”
After a plane many believed was carrying Ohtani to Toronto to announce his deal with the Blue Jays, it was revealed that its occupant was none other than Robert Herjavec — the entrepreneur known for starring on Shark Tank and Dragons’ Den .
Elsewhere in year’s past, the Toronto musician’s endorsement of sports teams has been cited as proof they are headed for failure.
In 2019, after Drake took a photo with Paris Saint-Germain’s Layvin Kurzawa, he was blamed for the soccer club’s 5-1 loss to Lille. As a result, Italy’s AS Roma banned its players from taking selfies with the Juno winner until after its season ended.
During the NCAA football playoffs in 2019, Drake publicly backed the University of Alabama and the team was throttled 44-16 by the Clemson Tigers.
Prior to that, he was in the stands cheering Serena Williams at the U.S. Open in 2015 when she was beaten by an unranked player. And when he trumpeted Conor McGregor, the MMA fighter was smashed by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 236.
But Drake also used his so-called “curse” to doom Philadelphia in their final game against the Raptors during the 2019 playoffs by wearing a pair of 76ers shorts.
Drake continues to add fuel to the curse chatter d espite losing $1 million after betting the Toronto Maple Leafs would beat the Florida Panthers in last season’s NHL Playoffs.
“If I could get out there and win for all your favourite teams, I would,” he said in a mock interview posted to Instagram in which he answered the question, “How Do You Feel About the Drake Curse?”
