Martin Kemp has shared a health update after a ‘terrible’ accident with a chainsaw that has left his fingers bandaged up.

The 64-year-old was rushed to the hospital and left with strapped middle fingers on one hand, his son Roman Kemp, 32, shared on a podcast

The radio host said his dad had been lucky he wasn’t left ‘fingerless’ after picking up the heavy machinery to try and cut some wood.

Elder Kemp has now shared an update with fans, flashing said fingers to the camera and reassuring them that the incident will not impact his upcoming gigs.

In a video shared to his Instagram feed, the former bassist for Spandau Ballet said to the camera: ‘Hey guys, just a little message, you might have seen in a paper that I had a terrible accident with a chainsaw, which I did, but it was last week. I’m a lot better now.’

Reassuring fans that his DJ gig would be going ahead, he then added: ‘I appreciate your concerns, and listen, it’s getting better by the minute, but I will explain how it happened another time. But just to reassure you, I am all right.’

Roman spilt the details first on his dad’s ‘scary’ chainsaw accident, during an appearance on the You About podcast with Tom Grennan.

‘I’d just finished work and looked at my phone and dad sent a picture of his hand with all fingers heavily strapped up,’ said Roman.

‘And all he writes underneath in the family WhatsApp group is “Yep… chainsaw”.’

Roman said then his dad eventually explained how the bandages had happened: ‘So he said “Oh there was a bit of the branch that we wanted chopping down so I went and got a chainsaw”.’

Roman said he didn’t understand why his dad was using a chainsaw at all, adding: ‘He’s 65. He’s got more than enough dough. Get a professional in, you can’t be doing that.’

It comes after Kemp shared his thoughts on his own mortality after facing significant health challenges, including brain tumours.

The singer was diagnosed with two benign brain tumours as a young man. In 1995, he underwent surgery to remove the tumours, and during the two-year period leading up to his operation, he often thought he wouldn’t make it out alive.

Speaking on his FFS! My Dad is Martin Kemp podcast which he shares with son Roman, he said that he would want the Capital FM host to make decisions on his end-of-life care over his elder child, Harley.

Martin said that this is because Roman is less emotional than his older sister.

‘You can block things out more easily,’ he said. ‘It’s not whether you’re a man or a woman, it’s who you are as a personality.’

He reassured his son: ‘When it comes to pulling the plug on someone… giving the doctor the wink and saying “that’s enough,” you’ll know.’
