Florida Congressman Byron Donalds, currently a frontrunner in the state’s gubernatorial race, has publicly vowed to pursue the impeachment of Judge James Boasberg. The catalyst? Allegations of Boasberg’s involvement in authorizing surveillance of Republican US Senators, a move Donalds characterizes as a grave abuse of power.
Donalds appeared on a business network program, outlining his concerns with stark clarity. He asserted that Judge Boasberg directly approved the actions that allowed special counsel Jack Smith to monitor communications of Republican senators, a breach he believes demands immediate and decisive action.
The Congressman didn’t mince words, stating that Boasberg “needs to lose his seat as a judge.” He emphasized the need for Congressional investigation, but also acknowledged the potential necessity of Department of Justice prosecution if criminal violations are uncovered.
Donalds escalated the gravity of the situation, drawing a comparison to the Watergate scandal. However, he argued this instance surpasses Watergate in its scope and insidious nature, alleging a coordinated effort not only to target political opponents but also to shield President Biden from scrutiny.
The core of the accusation centers around the Biden administration’s alleged use of the judicial system to target rivals while simultaneously suppressing information and silencing dissenting voices. Donalds specifically cited an investigation involving an autopen and alleged pressure on media companies to control the narrative.
Recent revelations detail how the Department of Justice, under Attorney General Merrick Garland, reportedly accessed the private phone records of several GOP Senators, and actively prevented AT&T from informing the lawmakers of this intrusion. Judge Boasberg’s signature is reportedly on the order authorizing this action.
This isn’t the first time Judge Boasberg has faced scrutiny. Earlier this year, he oversaw the release of an individual who had allegedly made threats against former President Donald Trump.
Further fueling the controversy, a formal complaint was filed against Boasberg by Attorney General Pam Bondi, citing his publicly expressed bias against the former President. These incidents, combined with the recent surveillance allegations, have solidified Donalds’ call for impeachment and a thorough investigation into the judge’s conduct.
