A quiet September night in Toronto shattered with the sound of gunfire, leaving a 42-year-old man fighting for his life. On September 24th, just after 10 p.m., officers responded to a shooting near Sheppard Avenue East and Brimley Road, a scene that would soon become the focus of a relentless investigation.
The victim, identified as Yueyuan Dong of Woodbridge, had been at an establishment with three other men when a heated argument escalated into a violent confrontation. Authorities allege the dispute turned deadly when one of the men produced a firearm and shot Dong.
First responders immediately began life-saving efforts at the scene, battling to stabilize Dong before rushing him to the hospital. Despite their best efforts, the injuries proved too severe, and Dong succumbed to his wounds on October 19th, transforming the investigation into a second-degree murder case.
Now, a nationwide manhunt is underway for three suspects believed to be responsible for Dong’s death. Kai Chen, 29, of Markham, Donald Keeshig, 29, of Toronto, and Kye-Shawne Griffiths, 28, of Brampton, are all wanted on warrants for second-degree murder.
This tragic incident marks the 35th homicide in Toronto this year, a stark reminder of the violence that can erupt unexpectedly. Investigators are urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of these three men to come forward, hoping to bring a measure of justice to Dong’s family and closure to this devastating case.
