A California family is desperately searching for their cat, Piper, after a shocking incident caught on home security footage. Diane Huff-Medina of Lakewood believes an Amazon delivery driver stole her beloved pet right from her doorstep on a recent evening, leaving her and her three sons heartbroken.
The video shows the driver completing a delivery around 6 p.m. He then pauses, noticing Piper, a six-year-old cat who enjoys both indoor and outdoor life. What began as a gentle pet quickly escalated into something far more disturbing.
The driver attempted to pick up Piper, and though she initially resisted, he ultimately grabbed her by the scruff of the neck. He then carried the struggling cat towards his vehicle, a scene Huff-Medina describes as deeply unsettling.
“She’s meowing at first, like normal,” Huff-Medina recounted, her voice filled with anguish. “Then it sounds a little more distressed… He just kinda more aggressively grabs her and carries her off like a raccoon or something.”
Piper was microchipped, but wasn’t wearing her collar at the time of the incident, complicating the search. The family immediately filed a report with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, hoping for swift action.
Amazon launched an investigation and quickly identified the driver involved. The company has since stated the driver is no longer permitted to make deliveries for them, and issued an apology to Huff-Medina.
Authorities confirmed the driver admitted to taking Piper, claiming he believed she was a stray. His story took a bizarre turn when he stated the cat “got restless and jumped out” of his truck, leaving her whereabouts unknown.
Despite the driver’s explanation, the family remains devastated and focused on finding Piper. “I just want my cat back for myself and for my kids, especially,” Huff-Medina pleaded. “I have three little boys who love her. We want her back.”
The search continues, fueled by the hope of a holiday miracle and the unwavering love of a family desperate to be reunited with their missing companion. Every moment feels critical as they pray for Piper’s safe return.
